What this site collects.
Short version: you can read every number here without an account, without a login, and without telling me who you are. There is no mailing list. You can follow a feed, which tells me nothing at all, or turn on browser notifications, which store one random address and nothing else.

Reading the site
Nothing is gated. There is no sign-up wall, no paywall, and no feature that requires an email address. If that ever changes, this page changes with it.
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages get read. That sets cookies and sends Google your IP address, browser and the pages you view. I use it to decide what to build next — not to identify individuals.
You can block it with any content blocker and the site works exactly the same; nothing here depends on analytics loading.
The live Metro arrivals and Capital Bikeshare availability on the dispensary finder are deliberately proxied through this server rather than fetched by your browser. That means WMATA and Lyft never see who is browsing a cannabis site. That was a design decision, and it costs a little speed.
Following updates
Updates are published as an Atom feed. Your feed reader fetches that file the same way it fetches any page here, so there is nothing to sign up for, nothing to confirm, and no list to be on.
I hold no record of who follows the feed. There is no address to store, so there is no consent record, no unsubscribe link and nothing to delete. Fetching the feed reaches the server as an ordinary web request, exactly like loading a page.
What you get: one entry when a new month of published DC or Maryland figures is added — a few times a year, not weekly.
What you will never get: advertising, sponsored content, affiliate links, or anything selling you something.
Browser notifications
You can instead ask your browser to notify you. This is the one place on the site where something about you is stored, so here is exactly what:
What I store: a single endpoint URL that your browser generates for this site — a long random address at Google, Mozilla, Microsoft or Apple, depending on the browser. That is the whole record. No email, no name, no IP, no account.
What I can do with it: ring it. Nothing else. It cannot be used to identify you, contact you any other way, or look anything up about you, and it is never shared or sold.
The notification itself is sent empty. Your browser is told only "there is something new", and the text you see is then fetched by this site's own code running on your device. That is deliberate: it means the push company relaying the message never learns which report was published, or that it concerned cannabis at all.
To stop: press the button again, or turn notifications off for this site in your browser settings. Either works on its own, and the stored endpoint is deleted as soon as the push service reports it is no longer valid.
To stop following, remove the feed from your reader. That takes effect immediately and involves me not at all.
Getting your data removed
There is no account and no mailing list, so in the ordinary case there is nothing of yours to remove. If you turned on browser notifications, turning them off deletes the stored endpoint. If you have emailed me, that correspondence sits in my mailbox like any other — ask and I will delete it.
What I do not do
- No advertising network, no retargeting pixels, no social trackers.
- No mailing list — so there is nothing to sell, rent or share. Ever.
- No profile-building, and no attempt to work out who follows the feed.
- No account, and no password to lose.
